Holiday Inn

So I haven't seen HOLIDAY INN for years. When I was a little kid we always watched it and WHITE CHRISTMAS on TV - of course those were the days before DVRs, DVDs, even VCRs.

I remember thinking the two little black children and the Mammy-type character were cute in the song "Abraham"
But I kinda forgot how far they went with the blackface number. This year I got the DVD for Christmas.

Holy crap. No wonder this one doesn't play on TV much anymore.

Jon Stewart schools Mike Huckabee

Menorah Shopping

I sent Doug to a Jew Super Store (he felt right at home) to buy us an electric menorah. We have a super kitchy silver Christmas Tree with vintage ornaments and those large colored lights - so I thought we should have an equally kitch-y menorah. Our real one is fancy and sleek (from Crate & Barrel, I think).

So he sends this from the iPhone. Oy.

So many to choose from! I gave him strict instructions that I wanted it to look like it came from A Christmas Story. Like a Leg Lamp. For eight nights. So a Spider Leg Lamp.

It's My Damn Birthday!

I didn't do an amazon wishlist this year, but thanks for all the requests for one :)
This year for my birthday, I would like you to go out of your way to tell someone how good they look today... maybe it's their hot new shoes or new hair cut... maybe they are trying a new look that you're diggin' or maybe they just need someone to say something nice to them... well, as a gift to me on my birthday... do it. Because we are all beautiful people and it's always nice to hear it from someone else.

Have fun on my birthday! xoxo

P.S.- this pic is my 2nd birthday... (27 years ago) note the brown carpet and the print couch... ouch.

This is a very beautiful sentiment...

I watch Keith Olbermann a lot, I'm not going to lie. I realize that he preaches to a choir, but I love his passion. Some of his rants are a little extreme, even to me. This one however, is really amazing. To hear these words coming from a "guy's guy" who at one time hosted Sports Center is just... well... awesome.

For those of you still out on the streets of California protesting Prop 8... keep going.

Halloween Vidjo

Once again - as the vidjo progresses I get a lil more tipsy. We were giggling watching this tonight watching how hard my jaw was working to over-annuciate. Train wreck.

Celeb sightings: Annie, Adam Ant, Mr. T, Clay Aiken, TheOtherO, Miss Foozie, Richard Simmons, Beetlejuice, and George Michael.

Guess Who I Met Today?

So for those of you who don't speak literary fag - it rhymes with Rony Smushner.

That's right ladies and homos - I met Tony DAMN Kushner. He came to Caroline, Or Change today. With the beautiful and glam Jeanine Tesori. It was one of the thrills of my lifetime. It would be like being in Streetcar Named Desire and Tennessee Williams walks in.

Tony F'ing Kushner. And this show especially - because it is so close to his real life. So I felt like was playing his dad - for him - in front of him. Holy Jew-us.

So - I nailed it - he approved and loved it and one of his least favorite moments we did well and he loved it and loved us.

So hopefully this was not REALLY the last you'll hear of this Chicago cast of Caroline.

The Daily Purge turns 3 Years Old!

3 years ago today, Oct. 25th, The Daily Purge was born... and by born, I mean, the first episode was put on a feed that I didn't know how to work very well and took countless hours of painstaking trial and error to get to work. The first 5 episodes had 24 listeners, was recorded with a $15 USB mic, and was missing a very important person, who to this day still makes me laugh out loud and is my very very dear friend. After 3 years, it is a joy for us to get to talk to each other and make you all laugh in embarrassing places :)

For those of you that have just started and for the people that have been with us from the beginning... Thanks for listening!

Here is the cover art to the first episode, before Rob joined full time:(barf, how many different fonts could I use... seriously... there is like 12)

"for the BIBLE tells me so" = Holy Crap, it's amazing.

So I took a sick day yesterday and spent some quality time on the couch trying to get the rest I need to finally get over this damn cold and be able to speak. I heard about this documentary about the church and homosexuality a while back called, "for the BIBLE tells me so" and it is now available on DVD. I have had it for a few days and decided to give it a try... I haven't been so moved by a movie in so long. This movie is AMAZING! This is a wonderful resource for families, friends, and those struggling reconciling their homosexuality with their faith. This movie is a wonderful example of family values... and of course, made me cry me eyes out.

Watch the Trailer... and buy it here.

So he posted this status update on his facebook page and the response from one of his other teenage friends is f-ing brilliant. (click to see a larger image)Alex P. you got moxie... and I love that a teenage says "get with the program" it's just a Dad/Gym Teacher/Old Man phrase... love it.

A Match Made in Douchebag Heaven

So today on Bonnie Hunt (yes I'm still watching it) Josh Kelly was on singing some horrible song about being proud of someone.
Gross. He and La Heigl deserve each other. Its hard to see who spends more time plucking their eyebrows.

One Class Act!

The new musical 9 to 5 opened (correction: LA opening) this week and during the opening night performance, the set malfunctioned and they had to stop the show. Well, Dolly Parton, who was in the audience, popped right up and sang some songs... and I couldn't love her more!.

Here is the footage that was caught:

The Slanket

So a while back I posted about The Slanket, which is a blanket with sleeves. Well, all you can see by this advertisement, it seems like a hip thing to have. As if to say, "Hey, everyone, grab you're Slankets and get over here!"

Well, that might be nice. then there is reality...
It's so hot on the inside I thought I was going to die... not to mention, I look like morbidly obese wizard.

Interesting...

How Much Do We Love HEART

I Fucking LOVE this

"On Thursday night Heart’s “Barracuda” was blasting through the Republican National Convention hall in tribute to vice presidential candidate Sarah “Barracuda” Palin, who was up on stage with presidential nominee John McCain following his speech.

Earlier on Thursday, Heart had e-mailed out a statement in response to an earlier usage of the song, saying:

"The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission. We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."

After “Barracuda” was played Thursday night, Heart guitarist/songwriter Nancy Wilson called Entertainment Weekly to complain: “I feel completely [expletive-d] over.” She and sister/singer Ann Wilson then e-mailed the Web site a new statement:

“Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there.”

Its a Gay Sophie's Choice

What are the Chicago gays to do on such a summer's night?

Donna Summer is appearing tonight at Ravinia - to the north

And Liza is appearing at the Casino in Hammond - to the south

Where to go? Which diva to see? Who will we run into?

Doug and I tried as hard as we could to get all of our packing done and are siding with Liza.
Because - frankly - each time she takes the stage could be her last. Maybe This Time indeed.

Who would you go see?

Where the stories went to...

As we talked about on the last show, The Daily Purge's feed will no longer hold the entire history, so, starting today, you will only be able to access shows that were produced in 2008, (right at our format change). With that, all of the stories I used to read on the show are now gone as well. So, as we talked about on the last episode, I started a new podcast called I Know How It Is... that will feature those stories, some new ones, and hopefully some guest story tellers will be contributing.
I will be reading new stories on The Purge as well, but rather than play the same stories again, I thought this would open up a new avenue for this work.

So, if you would like to subscribe, head over to iknowhowitis.com or subscribe on iTunes!

Thanks, as always, for all of your support!

I'm a Headline!

So for the last 10 years or so I've been checking out Playbill.com everyday for my theatre and Broadway gossip and news.
Imagine my surprise when our listener James e-mailed to tell me he read about me in Playbill today.

I had a lil thrill seeing my name in a headline.

Silly, I know - but kinda cool
